12 – The Races of Afghanistan

I love it!

Wenn man den Berichten der weiblichen Asylwerber zuhört, dann kann man sich gut vorstellen, dass es seit 1880 kaum Veränderungen gegeben hat. Also vielleicht doch nicht so irrelevant “The races of Afghanistan” von Bellew, H.W. aus dem Jahr 1880 in die Liste aufzunehmen. (Um Herrn Mahringer gerecht zu werden, muss ich aber zugeben, dass es eine neuere Ausgabe aus dem Jahr 1979 [sic!] gibt.)

Und weil es gar so passend ist, hier die ersten Zeilen der Einleitung:

Now that our armies are in possession of Kandahar and Kabul – the earlier and later capitals, respectively, of the lapsed Durrani Empire, and, as regards the latter, the seat of government of the succeeding Durrani Rulers, that is to say, the capitals of Saddozai Shahs and Barkazi Amirs – the question arises, what are we to do with the country heretofore governed from the seats of authority, and latterly in the possession of the Ruler seated in Kabul.”
